There’s still time to purchase tickets for the Macular Society’s annual London Conference. The event, sponsored by Vision Aid, takes place on Saturday 16 September at the Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in Prescot Street, Central London.

The conference will give people with macular disease the chance to find out about the latest developments in treating their condition. They will also be able to hear from researchers on current medical trials.

This year, the conference’s format has been given a makeover. In addition to information on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), there will be a separate programme aimed at people of working-age who are affected by macular disease.

A range of leading experts including ophthalmologists, researchers and inspirational speakers are already confirmed for the event. There will also be an opportunity for all attendees to take part in one of four workshops focusing on mobility, nutrition, lighting and low vision devices and smartphones and tablets.

During the afternoon, the charity will be unveiling the winners of its annual ‘Awards for Excellence’, which celebrate the excellent and inspirational work done to provide services and care for people with macular disease.

The event also includes a low-vision equipment and services exhibition. A full programme for the event can be downloaded from the Macular Society website, http://www.macularsociety.org/conference

Cathy Yelf, chief executive of the Macular Society, said: “The London Conference is always one of the highlights of our year. For 2017, we’re doing things slightly differently – we’re at a new venue, and we’ve also got more content than ever aimed specifically at younger people with macular disease.

“There really will be something for everyone. In addition to some great speakers, we’ve got some excellent interactive sessions planned and there will be lots of gadgets on show throughout the day, which people can test out for themselves.

“We still have a limited number of tickets available, so please get in touch with us as soon as possible if you’re thinking of coming along.”

The event runs from 9.30am-4.15pm and is open to all those affected by macular disease, their families, carers, friends and anyone interested in finding out more.

Entry to the conference is by ticket only. Tickets are priced at £22 each and are available from the Macular Society website, http://www.macularsociety.org/conference, or by calling 01264 350 551.
